The Mentorship That Changed My Path: Career Mentorship for Young Professionals in Singapore

Feeling Lost After National Service

Earlier this year 2025, right after completing my National Service, I felt completely lost. Burned out, mentally drained, and not even sure if university was the right path for me. I had a qualification in IT, but it never felt like a true calling, more like a safe, pragmatic choice. For a whole month, I sent out applications to jobs and universities, only to face rejection after rejection. Each “no” chipped away at my confidence until I started questioning my own value.

Discovering Career Mentorship Instead of a Sales Pitch

That’s when I first spoke with Erasmus and his mentor, Ferlyn. I went in expecting a typical financial consultant’s talk about numbers and products, but what I got instead was something else entirely. They listened. They made me feel heard. It wasn’t a sales pitch, it felt like mentorship.

The turning point for me was when they reminded me that there isn’t one single formula for success. That moment gave me the confidence to believe that maybe I could build my own path.

Rebuilding Skills and Confidence Through Mentorship

Slowly, with their support, I started to rebuild. Garry, their leader, coached me on how to structure presentations, communicate my value, and negotiate with confidence. These were things I’d never learned before, but they made a huge difference.

Eventually, I secured a System Analyst role, and with 20% more income than I had expected for myself. That win alone was big, but the real change was inside: I started carrying myself with more confidence, refining how I spoke, and learning to listen actively to others.

Becoming a Client and Gaining Financial Clarity

It was only after I landed the job that I decided to become their client. They sat with me, simplified financial concepts I had always struggled with, and helped me secure the coverage I needed at the lowest possible cost. For the first time, I had not just a pay check, but also clarity and stability for the future.

Consistent Support Beyond Finances

What really stood out to me was the consistency of their support. Weekly market updates, one-on-one check-ins, and sessions that felt more like mentorship than advisory. It went beyond finances; it was about believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.

Finding Community and Perspective

One memory that stays with me is the Team GGO BBQ Night. Meeting new people there and hearing their stories on how they’re in a career that differs from their field of study reminded me that I wasn’t alone, and that made me feel part of a bigger community.

What I walked away with wasn’t just financial clarity or a job, it was direction, purpose, and people I trust.

Advice to Young Professionals

Looking back, if you’re feeling as lost as I once did, I’d say this: Find people you trust to walk alongside you. The right support doesn’t just hand you a blueprint, it gives you the confidence to draw your own.

That’s why I’d recommend Team GGO to anyone starting out in their career or financial journey. They don’t just manage your finances. They mentor, they empower, and they help you find the clarity and courage to take the next step in your own journey.
