From Client to Financial Consultant
My journey with Team GGO started years ago, not as a consultant, but as a client of my then financial consultant, Javier. At that time, I was restless and unfulfilled in my career, always wondering what would make life truly worth living. That’s when Javier introduced me to his mentor, Kerlyn, and that’s when my path began to shift.
Fast forward to getting licensed, and reality hit hard. Challenges? Plenty. From the stigma of the industry, to skepticism from friends and family, to battling my own doubts, every day felt like a test (okay, every other day if I’m being honest). I constantly had to remind myself why I embarked on this journey in the first place.
What My Mentor Taught Me About Guiding, Not Rushing

One moment that stood out recently was when I got to see Kerlyn in action - speaking to my clients. It helped me to crystalise everything that she has been sharing with me. About asking questions, being genuinely curious. I began to realise how meaningful conversations can reveal how clients make decisions.
That’s because I can finally witness what Kerlyn has been drilling into me since day one:
focus on understanding problems, not pushing solutions
help clients visualise their future state
show genuine concern for their goals
empower them by acknowledging and celebrating their progress
She’s always said our role is about guiding, not rushing. Only now am I truly beginning to grasp how powerful that approach is in real conversations.
Building Confidence as a Financial Consultant
If you had asked me months ago, I would have said I felt awkward asking personal questions about clients and their families. It seemed intrusive. But Kerlyn explained why those questions matter, they uncover not just financial issues, but life issues. They help people think ahead about potential pitfalls.
Now, those same conversations feel natural. I see clients open up. They know I care, and that makes all the difference.
Anchored by Mentorship and the Team GGO Community
Working with Kerlyn has been eye-opening. She’s insightful, supportive, strategic — and the calm to my chaos. When I’m spiraling, she’s the anchor. She’s patient, encouraging, and… a little scary (in a good way), so I try not to be too needy.
Of course, a huge shoutout to Javier too! For bringing me into this team, always being approachable, sharing his journey, and helping me decode Kerlyn’s “super high-level” strategies that sometimes fly over my head.
And beyond mentorship, Team GGO makes the journey less lonely. From finexis’ CEO Dialogues that remind us of our “why,” to Chat Finouts where fellow consultants share their real struggles and wins. It’s a community that equips us with both skills and mindset.

Considering a Career as a Financial Consultant?
My journey to building a sustainable business and making a real impact is still ongoing, but I know I’m in good hands: Kerlyn holding the lantern to guide me, and Team GGO cheering me on.
And if you’re reading this wondering if this career might be for you… stop overthinking. Do it scared, do it unprepared, do it tired, do it unclear, just do it.
Team GGO even has a Career Exploration Programme where you can experience what financial advisory is really like before making the leap.
