A reflection from a former CEP participant
Written by Benedict David

Team GGO’s Career Exploration Programme (CEP) was a deeply fulfilling chapter in my life. Having spent most of my years working in my family business, I had never experienced anything quite like it.
I began the programme with a less-than-favorable impression of the financial services industry. But CEP opened my mind. It gently but steadily challenged my assumptions, and by the end, I had developed a newfound respect and appreciation for the profession.
The experience gave me more than just a glimpse into the industry, it offered clarity. It revealed what this career path could look like, but more importantly, it revealed something within me. Through each session and interaction, I began to rediscover myself in a deeper, more honest way. It taught me to pursue meaning and mastery in whatever I choose to do.
I didn't realise how much I had changed until my wife pointed it out. She told me I seemed more optimistic, and that my temperament had shifted for the better. It took her words for me to pause and reflect, and I could see it too.
CEP had shaped not just how I saw the industry, but how I carried myself in everyday life.

Looking back, I miss those learning moments. I was surrounded by some of the most generous and driven people, mentors who pushed me to grow, who celebrated my progress, and who supported me through both breakthroughs and stumbles.
To anyone considering CEP, I would strongly encourage you to give it a go. You’ll be challenged, yes, but you’ll also be guided by people who truly want the best for you.
You’ll learn from mentors who want to bring out your best.
And to companies, I say this: consider investing in a programme like CEP. Every industry plays a unique role in society, and initiatives like this can ignite the kind of purpose, clarity, and conviction that no résumé or degree ever could. Sometimes, all someone needs is that first spark.
